FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 21, 2024Residents encouraged to recycle electronics at “E-Cycle” Event at Krannert Park
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW), Office of Sustainability and our partners with RecycleForce invite all Marion County residents to recycle outdated or broken electronics at an electronics recycling (“E-cycle”) event on Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Krannert Park (605 S. High School Road).

Led by staff from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works – Environmental Resources Management team, this is the first special recycling event focused on electronics offered in 2024. Thanks to the participation of residents in E-cycle events over the past two years, over 100,000 pounds of recyclable electronics were kept out of landfills and harming the environment.

RecycleForce, a key partner of the event, is committed to helping reduce crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities, all while improving the environment through electronics recycling.

There is no cost for dropping off materials to be recycled. It is critical that these electronics are properly recycled since they contain several heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium, mercury, and lead. As of 2011,

Indiana's Electronic Waste law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash.

As a general rule, acceptable electronics for the event include anything with a cord attached, plus the items listed at the bottom of this release. This is a great opportunity for Marion County residents to properly recycle their e-waste and take care of the environment.

Non-electronic materials will NOT be accepted during this event. On site staff will direct traffic at the event and motorists should remain in their vehicles.

Those who are interested but unable to attend can recycle unwanted electronics on Saturdays at the City’s regular ToxDrop sites across the county. Those locations can be found here:
